Like Anna, Dan’s basic position is one of self-confidence, born of his middle-class upbringing, although he doesn’t strut quite as Anna does. His arrogance is more compact and self-contained:

His pronouncements on this and that give him the air of someone who should be listened to, yet this pose, which was repeated and varied at different times in the production, ironizes itself and invites the audience to question what is being said:
